Here is a poignant video with a strong motorcycle safety message for all courtesy of youtube.com.

I sure wish that this video or something like it would be put on the TV networks to get people thinking about motorcycle safety.

This is one of the greatest things I have ever seen. This should be played on tv. I can’t count the times so cagar has nearly took me out because they didn’t see me.

    Norm,

I try to drive carefully and have never had an accident or moving violation. At the same time, after seeing this video, I wonder whether I could injure a biker simply because I’m not sufficiently familiar with any special rules of the road that would enable me to avoid inadvertently colliding with a biker. Can you provide some tips to educate us car drivers on what we can do to avoid collisions with bikers?

I have been searching as to who owned the rights to this mpeg. I have been involved with May being Motorcycle Safety & Awareness month for the past 2 years. I have 2 Counties & most all of the Cities within. I have been to Austin just a time or two. I am a member of TMRA-2, AMA, Texas & 9th region COC, and fly the Red Knights TX Chapter 1 patch. On May 26 i had one of my best friends from jr high was hit head on by a gager in a crown vic trying to pass 2 cars…… Both were instantly killed. I am obsessed with getting Motorcycle warning signs put into the TXDOT warning sign manual. And bring Motorist Awareness for the protection of Motorcyclist. A week later another class mate died in a group ride where an 82 year old man just pulled out. I am working already with as many people as i can get to listen, till they get tired of hearing me, trying to put on a 10 day event in Oct. and would love to have rights to this for use.. in our area

Eh… Nice ad, important message. No impact. All the people at the end should be shown in wheelchairs or tombstones, etc. They stupid driver’s would realize that “by not seeing me, you killed me.” and have them be ghosts or something…

I agree, that is why I put it on here! Maybe some group like the AMA or MSF would put some money out to buy TV spots for this?

Welcome Carolyn. I just got in from a very long weekend of motorcycling.

The video is a start! Now when you see a motorcyclist or a biker you may think of them differently. I realize that the video is not a full representation of the biker community, or the demographics that they ride in. However, it does put faces and voices to some bikers.

Human beings are not good multi-taskers when they are driving their cars. This has been proven time and time again. This is why some States are now banning cell phone use without a hands free device while driving.

Basically being more careful on the road will help you be a better driver. Remembering that people on motorcycles are out there may force you to take a second look when you make a left turn or pull out of a driveway.

My opinion is that motorcycle awareness is a start. Obviously each State has its own laws regarding vehicles and motorcycles. This link shows laws relating to motorcycles by each State: http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/laws.asp

You may have to cut and paste the URL into your browser. You can also find an article that I wrote on this subject by searching for motorcycle laws by state in the search box on the right side panel in this blog. Use the entire phrase feature.

    Thanks,

    Norm

I believe that it was produced by ABATE and put into the public domain by them for all to see.

All I can say about the losses that you have experienced recently is that I send my sincere condolences to you, as well as the deceased victims family and friends.

I have been riding for many years. I have never seen the carnage happening to bikers and motorcyclist that I have seen this spring and summer. It is real bad out there. With gas prices sky high, many newbies are buying motorcycles. As usual, the cagers just do not see us! I am searching for answers myself.
