**** June 7, 2008 Update: I have now ridden 1000’s of miles in this saddle, and I highly recommend it. Although it does move you up and forward a bit, the trade-off for sheer comfort is well worth it. My passenger and I have never had a sore or numb butt with this seat. I give it a 9 out of 10!
I just installed a new Mustang Seat PN# 75537 on my FLHT Harley Davidson Electra Glide Standard. I knew before I purchased the seat that it does push you up and forward 1 inch from the stock seat position. I was given this information by Mustang themselves.
Let me start out by saying I have used Mustang single seat (rider/passenger) seats on 3 other motorcycles and loved them! I never had to break in a Mustang Seat, they always felt better than stock right off of the bat! I have always been a big fan of Mustang Saddles.
You can see the seat by I ordered by clicking here, and then scrolling down to PN# 75537.
My first impression of this seat is that either something is wrong with the seat, (defective) or something else is wrong. The seat just does not feel right, nor did it install correctly like my stock seat, and other Mustang Saddles that I have owned.
First off when I went to install the seat, the front lip that goes into the front slot closest to the tank, is not the same as on the stock Harley seat. The Harley Davidson stock seat has a straight up and down tab that goes straight down into the slot. On the Mustang seat there is a little lip, or tab that pushes under and up. It does not go on like the Harley Davidson seat which is basically straight down.
On this seat you are supposed to do a “firm downward chop” on the seat, while pushing the seat forward to get it to move up to the tank panel. Here is Mustangs Instructions for the seat.
After doing this a few times I finally got the front of the seat to butt up against the tank panel, but it looks crooked when looking straight down on it. I am a stickler for details, especially on a nice motorcycle like the Harley Davidson Electra Glide. It has to be perfect or it does not stay on my motorcycle!
I have never had problems installing a Mustang Seat on any other motorcycle that I have used them on. In this case, they designed the seat to mount different than the stock Harley Davidson seat. It does fit and mount on the motorcycle, but not as cleanly as a stock Harley Davidson seat.
Anyway, I thought that I would sit on it and give it a feel. All I can say is that it just did not feel right to me like my other Mustang Saddles. I felt like I was sitting on it rather than in it if you know what I mean.
This seat definitely raises you up and is firmer than the stock seat. It is wider too, so that when you go to put your feet down on the floor, at least for me, it was harder to reach the ground. I am 5’11” and I was wearing tennis shoes when I tested the seat. I like to have both feet firmly planted on the ground when I am holding up an 800 pound motorcycle like the Harley Davidson Electra Glide. With the Mustang Saddle on, both feet were on the ground, but not as solid as with the stock seat. It could be that I just need to get used to the seat!
I took it for a ride around the block, and it just did not feel as good as the stock seat. For the kind of money I paid for this seat, I expect luxury, and something much better than stock.
My first impression is utter disappointment, but I will not know for sure how I feel, until I actually take the motorcycle out for a real ride and see what the seat really feels like after I put some miles on it.
It also looks like the Passenger Pillion may be lower than the stock seat, thus bringing it down towards the grab bars on the side of the motorcycle. I sat on the passenger pillion and it felt comfortable to me. I am sure that my old lady will love the passenger part of the seat, however, I need to be able to have a seat that fits us both!
I will not know for sure what I really feel about the seat until I take for a ride. I will also play with it a bit to see if I can get the front alignment on the tank better. For the price I paid for this seat, I really expected more!
I will also call Mustang tomorrow. Unfortunately, I bought the seat from an eBay Powerseller new, so if I don’t like the seat, I will probably have to sell it.
It may be that I just have a defective seat, or I am too used to the stock seat. I will give Mustang the benefit of the doubt by calling them tomorrow to see what we can do.
First impressions are usually everything, and my first impression of this seat is that it is no good at least more me. I have always been a Mustang Seat fan up until I got this particular seat, for this particular motorcycle.
When I rode around the block with the new seat, my lower back felt weird, and that is after only going around the block once! I will know for sure after a decent ride on the motorcycle.
I will update this article to let you know what happens after I talk to Mustang; after I take a long ride with the seat; and whether I decide to keep or sell the seat.

Hello,
I recently purchased the Studded Pilow Ultra seat and could have written the exact same review as you. I am greatly disappointed in this seat considering the cost, I was hoping it would be better after a break in period but that has not been the case. My 13 year daughter and I recently tok a day trip of about 250 round trip, by the time I got back home the last 35 mile leg was painful for both of us.I did not like having to bend the front tongue to get the seat on at first and it has been downhill from there.
Hi Norm, Just found your blog….like it, thanks. Re: Mustang seat…bought mine Mod. # 78036 with passenger seat # 79112 over 2 years and 30,000 + miles ago for my FLHT …. can’t say enough GOOD about it. Longest one day ride was more than 800 miles… everyone else but me were seriously complaining, I was envigorated. My lady love it too. Absolutely the best seat I’ve ever had in 40+ years of riding. Someone may make a better seat but, I don’t need it. Roll Safely, Steve
Tom, after I broke in the seat it is just fine now. I have taken, and do take some very long trips now and the seat works much better than stock.
Trust me, it gets better!
Norm
Well Steve like you I love my Mustang. In Laughlin his past weekend a bunch of people came up to me and commented on my seat.
Keep both wheels on the road.
