Thanks for the comments Dave. I agree with you on the flashing tail light. The flashing tail light is legal in California!<br />

Sad to hear about another biker taken out by a reckless cager. In addition to good mirrors and exit strategy, a bright LED tailight that has a flasher helps. Anything to draw the cagers attention away from the cellphone etc, and back on the road. Dave P.S. Excellent blog site Norm!

My impathy to the riders family. Another gross neglet of an inattentive cage operator. This isn't only happening at stop signs, cagers on cell phones rollin in traffic are up on our fenders as well. Rear view perspective is a must for the cyclist. Stick with the functional, they are made this way for a purpose.

Functional for sure. I do not like the micro mirrors. They are more for show and not for a bike riden a lot. Safety should always come first. I expect soon, due to safety tests, that in years to come, people will most likely have to stick with stock mirrors. I expect as well, helmets will again be required in all states. As you said, we are exposed to the elements except for what clothing we have on our bodies. Another very good article Norm. I am for keeping both wheels on the ground and being safe. I think they should teach high school students in Drivers Education how to look for bikers and especially teach them to stay off the cagers bumper in front of them!!!

That is sad and it will still happen again. I learned in the beginner MSF course I took to pump the breaks when coming to a stop. Thus causing your break lights to flash. I like the idea of flashing tail lights and do hope to install them some day.
