This is the biggest POS I have ever bought. I'm on my 3rd on and they will do nothing about it. They do not work with the hand controls for long. They send your refurbished ones not new ones.
Toss this out because you could not control it all. volume went when it wanted and could not stop it. go to your locale stereo store, buy a Marine radio , pay them to wire it direct. Cost less than this POS!!!!!!!b FK Sony!!~!! They do not stand behind they products, nor do biker electronics !!!! I',FK Out !!!

What about the security system that works through the Harman Kardaon Harley Davidson radio. Do you lose that by installing an sftermarket radio such as the Sony you installed?

Thank you ,

Krissa,
I just installed this one a couple days ago...tough install to do everything right but with this blog and what I wrote, anyone can do it...just takes time. Bought the Fossgate amp with it and it's louder than the bike...probably should upgrade the speakers now to get better clarity.

Hi Norm, I am starting from scratch. I just got my fairing and it will go on my Softail Classic. I noticed that this stereo is no longer available. Any idea of what a good replacement would be? Sticking with a Sony of course. I will also need speakers (5.25). I wish I was a bit more techno but I'm afraid it all sounds a bit over my head. I will have it installed professionally. Thanks for any help or direction you could give!

This is a very informative post and proves that with a little time and research you can get everything you need to upgrade your stereo system. Most people live with the sound quality that they have because they feel that upgrading is too much effort. Glad you have taken the time to prove otherwise.

I upgraded my stock HD radio to a Sony mex-bt4100 with the biketronics wiring harness. The harness works well, the Sony stereo not so much. It has suddenly stopped sending sound to the speakers but yet it still beeps when turned off so it isn't the speaker connection. Some research has discovered a flaw with the Sony radios that can put them in to demo mode that you (or Sony tech support) can't remedy. Radio is garbage now and it is only 18 months old. I live in Canada so the actual hours of use are restricted to June-Oct. It is only July of season #2. Not a happy camper. Buyer beware or buy an extended warranty!

Great information. Just upgraded to a 2009 ULTRA and also in need of an stereo upgrade. I was wondering if this system could connect through blue tooth to wireless headset. My preference is helmet blue tooth speaker rather than a loud speaker system, mainly because my wife like the quiet solitude and I like to hear music.
Thanks for any info you can share on this..

I believe the rear can be setup to control the radio, you will have to do some wire chasing and wire soldering. the controls on the back are the same as the front, isolate the wire in the rear and solder them parallel to the controls in the front, it should work because the radio does not know where the controls are located. I have not done this but it makes sense to me. any thoughts?
