Riding in the rain safely is a matter of dressing properly, understanding traction, making sure you can see, and making that you are seen.
Though I don’t like cleaning the bike afterwards, I do enjoy riding in the rain. Some riders, especially here in California where rain is rare, respond to this statement with the sort of reception usually reserved for an announcement that aliens recently abducted the speaker…

It really drives me crazy to see people following too closely. It is so insanely dangerous. If more people would follow the advice in this article, there would be far fewer accidents!

My uncle was a biker from the 60s until he went home to Jesus last year. Rode on the back with him quite a few times. His ultimate “iron horse” I would say was the UH-1 Huey when he did two combat tours as a door gunner in Vietnam.

Although it is done all of the time on pack rides; it is not legal in California or any other State that I know of. I cannot give legal opinions for States other than California.

I have been on hundreds of pack runs and have seen law enforcement ignore the violation as well as pull people over. I guess it just depends on luck and who you are riding with.

When entering into a street, is it permissable to block
traffic to allow all riders ( a dozen or so) to safely
proceed?
