Well Christy we actually used MapQuest to plan our trip way back when. We took the 40 East from California and then took the highway MapQuest told us to take. I did not have a GPS at the time, and we were on a softail with no windscreen or anything at the time.

We kind of winged the trip without too much planning which is the way both of us like it. Too much planning takes the spontaneity out of it.

If you go in the middle of the summer it will be hot as heck. I suggest you to the the weather channel’s website to check temperatures.

enjoyed your blog….we are planning a trip in May 2012 hopefully to the Grand Canyon….plans are to fly out and rent a HD to ride…can you share with me some good routes to ride on, best side of Canyon to visit for a day trip and what to expect weather wise?

It is real comfortable John, especially with the Tour Pak relocation kit that I have on it right now. I once had a Suzuki Intruder 1500 LC. That was probably the most comfortable bike I have ever owned with respect to pure stretch out room.

The way I have my Electra Glide set up right now it is perfect.

By the way, we did the Grand Canyon run on a Suzuki Marauder with is a little over 800 cc.

The way I set up my bikes is for comfort. I have obtained a Mustang Saddle for all of my motorcycles which makes a big difference.

When I said I rode into the Grand Canyon National Park, I meant that we rode into the Grand Canyon National Park Entrance. The actual parking is 1 mile above the Grand Canyon floor. There are options to hike or take Donkey's down to the Canyon itself, but you cannot actually ride your motorcycles down to the canyon floor. The Grand Canyon National Park is HUGE! You cannot actually ride around the entire rim of the park because most of the park is dirt or on Indian Reservations. The are many entrances to get into the park and see the park but it is not like a lake that you can just ride around! The distance around the park encompasses hundreds of miles.

I suggest that you contact the Grand Canyon National Park for more information.

Have a great ride Valerio. I suggest that you do the ride before you start gambling in Las Vegas!!!

What is cool about being a biker is that you may have a destination planned, however, being the free spirits that we are, we may decide to take a 1000 mile detour just for the heck of it.

Destinations unknown are also cool as well. In the end; it is not the destination that matters, it is the ride that counts!

Yes it was a great ride Sandie. By the way; I have never trailered a motorcycle for any reason other than for service only. I ride wherever I go no matter what.

I have a ton of pictures from this particular ride but I did not want to bog down the blog with too many pictures which take lots of time to load on dial up browsers.

I actually have over 10,000 pictures from my various rides over the years. I wish I had time to write articles on all of my rides. Unfortunately, if I tried, I would be writing instead of riding!!

I may write an article about a marathon 19 hour run I did from Chatsworth, through Yosemite, Reno, Lake Tahoe, and then back down to Reno.

Norm: I am jealous. What a nice ride. I do believe I’d trailer from central Florida and then ride the bike around the Grand Canyon Park. I have never been there but it is on my list of things to do. I liked the pictures. especially the one of you looking a mile down. Reminded me of the Bottomless Pit in Mammoth Cave you walk across and pray the walkway does not break!! We think it is hot in the 90 degree range here and 119 degree there must be like you know where.

from mexico city we will be traveling to vegas and grand canion in 4 harleys we are entering from el paso tru de devils route up to flagstaff.
i do not understand the part were you rode inside the gran canyon?
can you explain better please?
we are crossing border on june 18 and maby on the 20 we are entering the national parck.
have you ever travel around the grand canyon?

I am planning a trip from new jersey to the canyon with my cuzin from south carolina,we are going to do it in 2011,on harleys and i agree we will not be trailering our bikes inless we brake down,,lol, i love reading your blog ,my thing is i have to get my harley and dont have a big budget and love the dyna wide glides with the leather bags and windshilde,my wife thinks we should try and get an eletricglide,how comfortable is your bike on long runs,with two people,i gruw up rideing all kinds of bikes but never did the double thing,john
