Happy Veterans Day 2014 from Biker Law Blog

California Attorney and Military Veteran Norman Gregory Fernandez in Basic Training, March 1981
California Attorney and Military Veteran Norman Gregory Fernandez in Basic Training, March 1981, age 17.

Many moons ago on a sunny day, my girlfriend, my father, and my childhood friend who I grew up with drove me from the San Fernando Valley to Los Angeles Airport for my trip to United States Air Force basic training.

I had just turned 17 a few months earlier, and hadn’t even started shaving yet. It was February, 1981. All my friends were still in high school, and 12 grade. I opted to skip 12 grade to go into the military.

I was a long haired blond kid from the San Fernando Valley dressed in a surfer shirt when I got the boot camp. The nightmare for me began when I climbed on the bus with all the other recruits going to Lackland Air Force Base Texas. The nightmare really began when we disembarked at the base from the bus. The multitude of drill instructors made us quite welcome.

Suffices to say it was the worst night of my life, and I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

When I got off active duty a long time later, I was lost. I put my fatigue pants on, my black combat boots bloused and ready to go, and my Air Force issue white T-shirt, and walked my bald ass down to the liquor store to buy a six-pack of Schlitz malt liquor.

As I walked it was very hard for me to acclimate to being home from active duty military. A couple hour plane I went from hard core military to the land of civilians and hippies. I had no clue what to do. Back then, everybody were longhairs. Being bald was not yet in vogue.

Thank god I did the palace chase, and went to the reserves. When I reported to my air National Guard station I felt at home again.

Believe me when I tell you that there are many many stories I can tell you here about my military experiences. But this is not the point of my story. The point of my story is that many many thousands of men and women have gone through a similar experience that I have gone through.

Some have fought in combat, been grievously injured in the service of their country. Many have not come home alive, and paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.

Veterans Day is not just about a day off work. On this day in 2014, we still have men and women in combat in Afghanistan, advisers in Iraq, and Air Force and Navy combat pilots flying sorties against the terrorist group Isis.

I would appreciate you making a donation to a reputable veterans group today. Many veterans have come home completely fucked up. They have PTSD, or wounds, and many are not able to get jobs or fend for themselves because the economy still is not recovered completely.

The least we can do for our veterans is help them. While your sorry asses are enjoying barbecue today, many veterans put their asses on the line for you and yours.

Don’t thank me for my service, donate to other veterans for their service. They deserve it.

May God bless America.

Each year I wish all of my fellow veterans, both past and present a Happy Veterans Day.

You can read my many articles by typing in Veterans Day on the search box on the upper right.

This year is a special veterans day. President Obama has announced that we will officially be out of Iraq by year’s end which is great news. We lost a lot of men there, and many tens of thousands more were severely injured and/or have suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result.

Our men are still fighting Taliban and insurgents from Pakistan in Afghanistan as I write this article.

Further, this year we finally got the asshole Osama Bin Laden and dumped his ass into the ocean where he belongs. We also got the asshole Anwar al-Awlaki and a whole bunch more of those Al Qaeda assholes.

With our help and the help of NATO, Libya’s Kaddafi is no more.

However, our nation is facing some major challenges in the upcoming years. The U.N. has finally acknowledged that Iran has been lying about its nuclear program, and in fact is trying to develop a nuclear weapon, which may mean we might have to take out Iran, and Communist China is building its military and space capabilities with our money.

In the end there may be more wars in store for our nation.

At least for now there are many veterans who are coming home to find that they cannot get jobs, and their benefits are being cut and/or are non-existent. This to me is a travesty.

There are many other veterans who are homeless on our streets, and who have become addicted to drugs and alcohol as a result of having to deal with the nightmares they went through on our countries behalf.

There are many others that have suffered horrible injuries that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

It’s time for us as a people to step up and do more for our veterans than wish them a happy veterans day, it is time to actually help them out and show them that we love them and honor their service.

I am asking all of you to donate money to a reputable veteran organization this day.

Happy Veterans Day!

Have a happy Veterans Day; 2010

Norman Gregory Fernandez, United States Air Force, March 1981

This year Veterans Day is today, Thursday, November 11, 2010. For those of you, like me who have served in our armed forces, thank you for your service.

There are many Iraq and Afghanistan veterans returning from the war that need jobs and our help dealing with post traumatic stress. I highly recommend donating money and time to reputable organizations that are helping these vets.

For those veterans who are still on active duty, especially in Afghanistan; God Speed.

Contrary to popular belief, Veterans Day is not about shopping bargains, or just getting a day off, it is about recognizing the service of all  who have served in our Armed Forces.

Take a little time out of your busy day today to reflect upon and thank all of those who have served in our Armed Forces.

Freedom is certainly not free.

Have a Great Veterans Day

Norman Gregory Fernandez discusses veterans dayFrom the Biker Law Blog, I would like to wish all of our nation’s veterans a happy Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is a day to honor all of those of who have served in our nations armed forces. Thank you all veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and the Coast Guard.

I myself served in the Air Force and then the California Air National Guard.

I was recently at an event in another State where there was a Marine official function going on. I saw our proud marines all dolled up in their dress uniforms with their medals on. They looked real young. I got a bit choked up as I thanked them for their service. It appeared to me that all of these young men are veterans of the current war going on.

There is a war going on right now; young men and women are fighting and dying for our freedom as I type this.

This is a day to honor our nation’s veterans and our nation’s heroes.

May god be with you, and god bless America.

VETERANS DAY; A SALUTE TO THE VETERANS OF ALL AMERICAN WARS.

Veterans Day

After the end of World War I, the United States Congress enacted legislation which created Armistice Day as a tribute to all American veterans of World War I.

After World War II, and the Korean War, the United States Congress changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day to honor all American war veterans.

Many people may think that Veterans Day is just another holiday that gives you a three day weekend and bargains at the shopping mall. You are mistaken.

If it were not for the brave veterans of all American wars, including the men and women that are serving right now in Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States of America would not exist. This day is to honor those men and women of past and present conflicts that fought and/or died so that we may be free as a nation.

Take a little bit of time out of your busy schedule today to remember those brave souls who fought and/or died so that you and your family can be free and enjoy the lives that you have today. Think of those brave souls fighting right now in Iraq and Afghanistan. Teach your children about Veterans Day.

May God bless the veterans of all American wars, both past and present, because they have blessed us with freedom by their service.
