LOS ANGELES, CA – March 8, 2012 – Organizers have announced that the much anticipated ’Ride to the Dunes’ for Child Abuse Awareness, led by Grand Marshal, Lorenzo Lamas, scheduled for Sunday June 3, 2012 will begin with a beautiful ride from Bartels’ Harley-Davidson, 4141 Lincoln Blvd., Marina Del Rey, CA to the serene Newport Dunes Resort, Newport Beach, CA. Lorenzo Lamas will be joined by cast members from The Sons of Anarchy, Southland and American Ninja; he invites the public to join him as well.

As the year 2011 comes to an end, I would like to take this time to wish all readers of the Biker Law Blog a Happy New Year.

For those of you reading this message before the clock strikes midnight, make sure that no matter what you do not drink and drive tonight.

Alcohol is one of the most powerful drugs known to man. Driving after drinking is almost like playing Russian Roulette except that you are putting innocent people at risk along with yourself. Don’t do it.

I hope that all of you have a great New Year along with good health and prosperity in the coming year.

Out for the next Month due to Surgery.

California Motorcycle Accident Attorney and Biker Lawyer Norman Gregory Fernandez

California Motorcycle Accident Attorney and Biker Lawyer Norman Gregory Fernandez

I had surgery on October 28, 2011, which will keep me off work and off of my motorcycle for at least one month, however, I am told that that I could be off of the motorcycle a bit longer.

Ordinarily I would not post personal business like this on the Biker Law Blog but since my postings will be few and far between in the next month, I thought you all had a right to know.

Now you know why Liz and I hit so many rallies so quickly this past summer, I knew I was going to have the surgery and I wanted to get as much in before I had it done.

Due to the magic of technology, i.e. my Asus Transformer Android Tablet, I am able to type this blog post from my recovery bed!

I just want to let you all know that I have been told by the doc that my prognosis is a 100% recovery but it is just going to take a bit of time.

I am going stir crazy laying in bed with pain watching TV and this is only the 6th day! There is nothing worse than a liquid diet, yuk!

While I am recovering, I will do my best to type blog post with my tablet from bed.

While I am recovering, none of my clients need worry, my law firm staff are still all hard at work on your cases!

Take care for now!

Technical Problem with load times on the Biker Law Blog Corrected.

Software glitch on the Biker Law Blog causing slow load times corrected!

Software glitch on the Biker Law Blog causing slow load times corrected!

I have noticed a marked increase in the length of time it has taken in the past month for the Biker Law Blog to load. I also had a similar problem on the California Personal Injury Lawyer Blog. I am sure that many of you have experienced the same problem and became frustrated.

I know that I may have lost some readers due to how slow it became for the page to load.

I have had my people looking at it to find out what the problem was. We had to disable pieces of the blog one by one to try to find out where the problem was.

It turns out that we had a bit of software that connected to Facebook and that allowed people to click whether they liked an article or not, plus it showed how many people liked an article, etc.

Well that piece of software bogged down the blog so bad that it was taking around 30 seconds for the page to completely load.

I don’t know whether it was the interface to Facebook that was causing the problem, or the software itself. I do know this, the problem is resolved.

We will try to get the functionality of the software we disabled back on the blog as soon as possible.

In the meantime if you want to share or save an article on Facebook or any other social media, simply click on the Share/Save button on the bottom of each article.

I am glad we are back to normal speed again; enjoy.

My Second Grandchild was born yesterday; Welcome to the world Isabella

My Granddaughter Isabella Just after Being Born on April 12, 2011

My Granddaughter Isabella Just after Being Born on April 12, 2011

Here she is, literally just out of the oven. (Right after birth)

Well what I can I say, my newest grandchild was born yesterday; her name is Isabella. At almost 8 pounds she is one hell of a healthy baby. All of her toes, fingers, eyes, and ears are there, so thank god for that.

I will meet her later this afternoon for the first time. It is funny how life works; I love my granddaughter, and I have not even met her yet.

If she takes after the family she is going to be an intelligent heartbreaker :)

My daughter Elsie is doing well after giving birth, so it does not get better than this.

Both of my parents are also proud to be great grandparents again as well.

After Isabella was born yesterday, I reflected on the cycles of life, the prospects for her future in these tough economic times, and life in general.

I suppose that men in my spot for thousands of human generations have contemplated the same things over the ages.

I think that Isabella and Nathan, my two grandchildren will have a great future. Above anything else, the three most important things I would like to teach them are; (1) love of family, (2) the need for education, and (3) to be good ethical persons in life.

At the moment I am a very happy man!

Suzuki Recalls 73,426 Motorcycles over Electrical Problem

2008 Suzuki Hayabusa

2008 Suzuki Hayabusa

American Suzuki is recalling 73,426 motorcycles built between July 2007 and September 2009 for an electrical problem.

Some regulator/rectifier assemblies were produced with insufficient adhesion between the power module (circuit board) and the rectifier case that contains a heat sink to dissipate heat. Due to insufficient adhesion, heat generated on the power module circuit board can cause the circuit board to deform and lift off the case. This condition causes excessive heat on the circuit board and uncontrolled electric current output, which can result in insufficient charging current being provided to the motorcycle battery. This can cause discharge of the battery and can lead to engine stalling and/or a no-start condition.

The models were manufactured from July 2007 through September 2009 that are equipped with regulator/rectifier assembles with the following part numbers: 32800-41F11, 32800-15H10, 32800-05H11, 32800-41G10, 32800-15H00, 32800-18H00, 32800-05G10, 32800-10G10, 32800-05H20 or 32800-06G01.

Suzuki is replacing the part free of charge on affected models.

Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the regulator/rectifier with an improved part for free. The recall is expected to begin on or about March 2.

In the paperwork filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Suzuki said it first recognized the issue in 2008, and tried to solve the problem with its parts supplier before issuing a recall. It reopened its investigation last September after receiving more than 180 reports of failure from its American dealers.

The recall affects the following models: 2008-2009 Burgman 400, 2008-2009 V-Storm 1000, 2008-2009 Bandit 1250, 2008-2009 GSX-R600, 2008-2009 GSX-R750, 2008 B-King, 2008-2010 Hayabusa, 2008-2010 GSX650F, 2009 SFV650, 2008-2010 VL800, 2008-2010 VLR1800, 2008-2010 VZ1500.

Norm’s Tidbits, Tuesday February 8, 2011

Norm's TidbitsBiker Law Blog Software Upgrade and Addition: This morning we upgraded the Biker Law Blog software. We also added a function at the bottom of each post that allows you to tell your Facebook friends that you like an article. To tell your Facebook friends that you like an article, simply click the “Like” button on the bottom of the article. To Bookmark, Share, or Email an article move your mouse over the rectangular block that has “Share/Save” and the little icons in it at the bottom of each article. Once you do that, a new window will open up and you will be able to do what you want.

I took a Ride Today: I decided to take a ride today just for the hell of it. It was a bit nippy when I left my house. I started having trouble shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear, and it appeared that my heel/toe shifter may have been a bit loose. I also had a bit too much play in my front brake. I decided to run my motorcycle by Antelope Valley Harley Davidson to have it checked out. While I waited, they adjusted my clutch, tightened the heel/toe shifter, serviced the front brake caliber, and washed my motorcycle, all for a grand total of $129.00. My motorcycle feels as good as new again, although they did inform me that my shift shaft seal needs to be replaced because there is a small leak, and I am due for a major service in 1400 miles. They told me they could do the entire repair and service in one day. That is what I call great service. Thanks Antelope Valley Harley Davidson.

Friggen freezing: On the way home from the Harley Davidson dealership, it was so damm cold that my ears, nose, hands, legs, and jewels all began to freeze. Man do I hate winter.

Announcing Norm’s Tidbits

Norm's TidbitsI have found that I would like to talk about a lot of things here on the Biker Law Blog that may not equal enough words to be a full blown article. I might just want to write a sentence or two on something.

Well, I come up with a solution; it is called Norm’s Tidbits. From here on out, if I want to throw a tidbit or two out, I will do so under the title Norm’s Tidbits.

Since a tidbit is not a full article, I may not put a picture in with the tidbit. I may even throw out a few tidbits under one heading.

I will give it a go here in the Biker Law Blog and see where it takes us.

The Biker Law Blog is Moving to new software platform in 48 hours!

California Motorcycle Accident Attorney and Biker Lawyer Norman Gregory Fernandez at the Laughlin River Run 2010

California Motorcycle Accident Attorney and Biker Lawyer Norman Gregory Fernandez at the Laughlin River Run 2010

**** Update 8/2/10 – As you can see, we are up on the new software. Please be patient as we get everything working on the new platform.

Well folks, for better or worse the time has finally come to convert the Biker Law Blog to a new software platform.

We have been working on moving this site to the new platform for over a month. That is why you have not seen many articles from me in the last month.

The conversion has been a nightmare. Getting the hundreds of articles, and thousands of user comments to the new system on a test domain has not been easy.

Once the conversion is done, there will literally be almost a thousand URL redirects that have to be done so all of the articles, links, etc., from the old software, will go to the new software.

The new software will be fully functional, however many of the design features of the new site will be worked on after the conversion is done.

I have finally decided to put my foot down on the conversion. This thing could go on for months. I am not willing to withhold my articles because I am waiting for a new system to be designed. So I have made the call to convert even before everything is finished.

Initially, the new software platform will look like the old software platform. I designed it that way.

However in the weeks following the conversion, you will notice new design and functionality tweaks.

If any of you notice any bugs or problems when the conversion is done, please let me know via the contact page on the new system.

Thanks,

Norman Gregory Fernandez

The Biker Law Blog is on the Move.

The Biker Law Blog is changing software platforms

California Motorcycle Accident Lawyer and Biker Attorney Norman Gregory Fernandez at Laughlin River Run 2007

Actually, the title of this article should be that the Biker Law Blog is in the process of being converted. You see I am in the process of switching the Biker Law Blog to a different software platform.

The Biker Law Blog has literally become a beast of a website. The website, articles, media, and database on the website amount to almost 1 gigabyte (1,000 billion bytes) of data.

On top of that, I am getting about 1 million hits per month on the Biker Law Blog. The total data transferred each month is about 10 gigabytes of data, or 10 – 1000 billion bits of data per month. Further, we keep growing.

The Biker Law Blog has turned into a recognized motorcycle industry publication, and not just a law blog. For those of you who read the blog you know what I am talking about.

The software that the Biker Law Blog has been rock solid ever since I started the blog about 4 years ago. However, it has many limitations with respect to customization, and the ease of creating articles.

Many would say, it the software the blog is running on is not broken, why mess with it?

The answer to this question has caused me much grief. You see the guy who I paid to do the original customization of the Biker Law Blog is basically not around anymore. I have tried on numerous occasions to contact him, with no response.

Super Guru Ed B., the second customizer of the blog has gone on to greener pastures, and has told me that he has disassociated himself from the software that runs the blog due to an ethical conflict with the software’s creator.

Basically this has left me with a couple of choices. Do I stay with software that has worked for me, but that requires professional’s to upgrade and customize, or do I take a chance and go with a different platform that may not be so reliable (only time will tell), but that would make my job much simpler?

I have opted for the simple approach.

I am hoping that with automated daily backups using the new software, if something happens, I can simply restore the site.

The new software should be easier to customize, easier to do postings with, and will hopefully streamline the Biker Law Blog into a more manageable site.

As we speak, I have a test site up on a hidden domain.

I am trying to find a way to automatically get the posts, comments, and registered users from the existing Biker Law Blog software, into the new software on the test site. Since there is no current script to get this done, it may not be possible. Unfortunately, the current software that I use has no way to export the data, so it can be imported into another type of software. The designer’s rationale is that if they spend so much time creating the software, they do not want to help people leave it.

This is one of the big reasons I am leaving the software.

If I cannot automatically transfer the data to the new platform, I will literally have to manually transfer each post, comment and registered user to the new platform, one by one. This will take weeks since there are hundreds of posts, and thousands of comments.

Once the data is transferred to the new platform, we will then do the customization of the Blog to make it look sharp, be easier to use, and to make it simpler for users to register.

Registered users will no longer have to deal with the rampant spam that we have been hit with recently. I am sick of having to ban spammers on a daily basis manually.

Because of the changes that I am making to the new Biker Law Blog, and the time that it will take to transfer to the new platform, my postings will decrease temporarily until I get the new Blog done. Hell with a busy law practice, it is hard enough to write a blog as it is. Once the changeover is done, I can concentrate on blogging, and not software issues.

If you are a registered user of the Biker Law Blog, you will be receiving email updates to let you know what is going on.

Please be patient during this time of change.
